Review medication
  • caffeine/alcohol/nicotine

 Prescribed medication interrupting night-time sleep

  • diuretics – taken after midday
  • steroids – taken after midday
  • sedative/hypnotic withdrawal
  • opioid side-effects
  • theophylline, methylphenidate, beta-blockers etc.

Medication causing daytime drowsiness

  • night-time sedation
  • sedative/hypnotic/anxiolytic drugs
  • antihistamines.
